About The Old Bakehouse
Residents can enjoy all the benefits of supported living – the helping hand and companionship you need and the freedom you want. From enjoying the comfortable private rooms, group social areas and extensive gardens of The Old Bakehouse to getting out and about in the beautiful village of Chadlington and becoming a real part of the community. Supported living offers a perfect balance. The Old Bakehouse is owned by a community-based not-for-profit charity which has an agreement with a Registered Provider, The Abbeyfield Wessex Society, to operate the home.

The Old Bakehouse Chadlington has 10 private rooms with ensuite bathrooms, one of which is suitable for double occupancy, plus one self-contained flat, suitable for double occupancy, with its own kitchen area and ensuite bathroom.

“Persistent social isolation has been linked to higher risks of depression, cognitive decline, cardiovascular disease, and even premature mortality.
Supported living offers a constructive and empowering way to mitigate these risks, supporting autonomy while enabling social connection. By fostering both independence and community, supported living not only improves quality of life but can also play a preventative role in reducing the wider health burden associated with loneliness in later life.” Local GP Dr Charlotte Hanan

Chadlington is a picturesque village located in West Oxfordshire, nestled in the Cotswolds Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. Situated approximately 3 miles south of Chipping Norton, it is known for its rolling countryside, historic buildings, and traditional English charm. The village has a long history, with evidence of settlement dating back to the Saxon era.

Since local farmer, Tom Pitt, generously donated his house, The Old Bakehouse, to a local charity, to the Chipping Norton and District Abbeyfield Society, in 1984, it has been run as a supported living home for older people. It provides comfort, security and companionship to those in their later years who can longer live alone – and just need a little support.
