About The Old Bakehouse
Supported living at The Old Bakehouse offers a perfect balance of independence and companionship in the beautiful village of Chadlington.
Residents can enjoy the freedom of a comfortable private room, group social areas and extensive gardens, combined with delicious home cooked communal meals.
The Old Bakehouse is owned by a community-based not-for-profit charity which has an agreement with a Registered Provider, Abbeyfield Wessex Society, to operate the home.
The Old Bakehouse has 10 private rooms with ensuite bathrooms, one of which is suitable for double occupancy, plus one self-contained flat, suitable for double occupancy, with a kitchen area and ensuite bathroom.
Key Features
The Abbeyfield movement in England and Wales consists of almost 100 independent Abbeyfield Member Societies providing houses and homes to older people.
Abbeyfield opened its first house in 1956, guided by the vision of founder and social reformer Richard Carr-Gomm.

Homely and friendly houses were created, and have established great links within their communities, making time for residents, and enhancing lives by bringing everyone together.
Richard Carr-Gomm’s idea of providing houses for residents to make friends, eat together, take part in activities, and to continue feeling part of the community are the same ideals you’ll find at The Old Bakehouse Chadlington.

Abbeyfield Wessex own and run twelve independent living houses throughout Dorset, Hampshire, Gloucestershire, Somerset and Wiltshire, and are managing The Old Bakehouse on behalf of The Old Bakehouse, Chadlington, a newly established, local, non-profit registered charity no 1211853

“My mother in law Grace lived in The Old Bakehouse for a decade, she rented out her large family home which made the arrangement financially sustainable. The costs are much lower than a residential care home.
She had a wonderful life there with her own furniture, pictures and books in her room. It had an en suite and kitchenette with a fridge. She made her own breakfasts. Her health greatly improved after moving in.
We have very fond memories of this time. I am so glad that I remembered the Old Bakehouse when we needed it.”
