Do you know the difference between supported living and a care home?

question that we have been asked a number of times recently, is what the difference between supported living and a care home? Here we outline some of the key differences:
- Care Level: The Old Bakehouse Chadlington is a supported living home with friendly staff present throughout the day, but not personal care (washing/dressing). Care homes provide 24/7 care from qualified staff.
- Independence: Residents in a supported living home have their own rooms, often with a small kitchen area and more independence and privacy. Care homes offer more intensive supervision.
- Meals: Supported living homes typically provide, at minimum, two main meals per day in a communal setting, aiming for a family-like atmosphere, but residents have the option to prepare drinks and snacks in their own rooms in their private kitchen areas.
- Atmosphere: Supported living homes are often smaller, community-focused, and located in ordinary streets, designed to combat loneliness. The Old Bakehouse is in the heart of Chadlington with 10 rooms.
- Cost: Supported living costs significantly less than a care home – for example the Old Bakehouse Chadlington costs from £1,950 to £2,100 per month for the private rooms to £2,700 for the self-contained flat. All prices include lunch, dinner, utilities and Careline. The monthly average cost of residential care in a care home is £5,192 (according to www.carehome.co.uk)
