World Book Day

March 2026

ld Book Day – do you enjoy reading? Getting lost in a good book is a timeless habit that keeps the mind sharp and the spirit young! 📚

Whilst we often focus on getting books into the hands of children, reading is important for all ages. It’s more than just a pastime—it’s a workout for the brain and a window to the world.

Reading promotes:

    • Brain Fitness: Regular reading is like a gym membership for the mind. It helps keep cognitive functions sharp and has been shown to slow the progression of memory-related conditions.

    • Stress Reduction: Just 6 minutes of silent reading can lower heart rates and ease muscle tension. It’s the ultimate escape.

    • Empathy & Connection: Stories allow us to walk in someone else’s shoes, fostering a sense of connection that helps combat feelings of isolation.

    • Better Sleep: Swapping a bright screen for a physical book or an e-reader with warm light helps signal to the body that it’s time to wind down.

“Reading gives us someplace to go when we have to stay where we are.” — Mason Cooley
